BUSINESS DESIGN AND INNOVATION
The University Of Hong Kong

BDI graduate
BDI is the reason I chose HKU over other universities – a choice that left no regret. At times, this major can be pretty much random (it’s not the best major for future accountant for sure), but it was fun to be a BDIer, and I’m sure that other graduates would feel the same. Even until now, the lessons I've learnt as a BDIer make me pursue what I really love to do and be more daring to go for it. Well, at the beginning you will find it annoying explaining what your major is to every single person you meet, but you’ll get used to it.

Internal Vice president at Inter Cultural Education (BDI graduate)
Hi everyone! One of the main reasons to choose BDI was to meet likeminded people and I believed that I could meet very creative classmates here. People who takes up a new major like BDI are usually very interesting. One of the highlights of this major was the creative class (creativity and business innovation) and architectural class. It was very inspiring and forced me to think out of the box, be creative and daring. I love the designer's thinking involved, which is very different from my other business courses. All in all taking BDI was one of my best decisions.

Creativity and Business Innovation

Life is about patterns and learning from the things around you. Many a times things are staring you in your face and you fail to observe them. This failure to observe coupled with an inability to connect things that seem disconnected is what leads to boredom and "lack of creativity." The fact remains that we never know it all and that's the beauty of developing creativity, you keep looking at familiar things in different ways. Life becomes so interesting!

Design Is Answering Questions
Design is bringing solutions to questions. All of the designs aim to solve questions: business design want to increase the revenue and provide its customers the best product they want with good customer experience; art design bring the thing aesthetic value and lift the spirit of the audience; programme design utilize the power of computers to push the limit of the world. Business Design and Innovation students are trained to be great designers. Architectural projects make BDI students think like designers. Through the projects we are more and more familiar with how to weave our creativity into the design to tackle the difficulties encountered and fulfill the requests.
Ignite Your Creativity
Being creative is nothing we can make without proper practice. Just like the incredible catches performed by Major League Baseball players or unbelievable buzzer beaters in basketball games, you need to be very well prepared to have good ideas pop up. But you might wonder: “how can we do that? Creativity is intangible and ramdom.” Yes, creativity is random, but experience is not. Our ideas and imagination are based on our experiences. The former program organizer professor Ali Farhoodmand suggested that we try different things in life and experience as much as we can. Architectural projects are great chances from which we learn how to arrange our experiences into creativity.
